Happy Monday!

Do you notice how we all get excited about Friday? “Is it Friday yet?” The week has just begun and we hear each other saying, “I can’t wait for Friday.” The days sometimes appear to drag and then Friday comes, and Saturday and Sunday. Before you know it, it is Monday again. If you are like me, you wake up grateful to be alive, but then you sigh, “I can’t believe it’s Monday already.”

What’s our obsession with Friday and the weekend? What about life’s journey? Are we missing some good times because we only want to ride a part of the time?

Studies have shown that most Americans are unhappy with their jobs. There are several reasons offered for this high level of job dissatisfaction: inadequate wages; poor benefits, if any; insensitive bosses; little or no flexibility to deal with family matters; monotonous tasks; and a slew of other factors. I believe that you may agree that if most people fall into one of the above “groups” of people, it is understandable why we do not want Monday to come – especially so quickly.

However, in our haste to get to Friday and the rest of the weekend, are we missing out on some of life’s goodies? The fact is we must live whether it is Monday or Friday. We must relate to others; we must deal with issues; and we must consciously or unconsciously influence others for good or bad. Could we be missing some of the fun that life offers on Monday through Friday, because we are so bent on getting to Friday evening?

Live each day as if it is the last day of your life.

My contention is that life is now. I am guilty of looking for the next big thing, the next break, the next vacation or the next weekend and I sometimes miss the beauty of a moment. Come on! Let’s wake up and smell the roses. Saturday is as a good a day as Monday, because God made them both for us to enjoy.

It is time to enjoy the moments.

Let us enjoy that game with the kid; eating that bowl of cereal; chewing on that barbequed chicken leg; walking the aisles at Wal-Mart; making love to your spouse; hanging out with that friend or co-worker on Monday; attending church service on Wednesday; laying in the couch and watching TV on Tuesday; running to catch the train on Wednesday; and whatever other moments you have.

Is it Friday yet?
