It's Thanksgiving, man
'nough turkey, salad, dessert and ham.
We gather one, we gather all
Ignoring computer, work and mall
For once a year through snow or rain
Economy bad or rolling on
We all jump in Thanksgiving jam.
Hear the sound of children play
See in- laws and blood take some- give way
Granny and Grandpa smiled on and on
Yes, we all enjoy Thanksgiving jam.
Some by air, by rail and road
Shaking disappointment, delay and load
For nothing can mess or spoil this band
Heading with joy to Thanksgiving jam.
And then the day comes; it's gone
Heads bob, hearts gallop, moods are up
Participants dance a jig or two
Grateful for food and family too
Delighted that this day will stand
A time for all a time for one
Forever live - Thanksgiving jam.
Yet soon we go and soon forget
Thanksgiving jam is not a one night stand.
Wake up - give thanks - we could be dead
Have bread - give thanks - it could be lead.
Have friends - give thanks - many don't
Have health - give thanks - complaining less
For relief, many the world would give -no less.
Each day day we wake - go out - come in
Thanksgiving jam should be our thing.
Today our last it could be
Complaints forever makes a murky sea
We want to live, enjoy the moment
The end sometimes is quick and final
Then what?
We would have lost life's greatest joys
Thanksgiving jam, Thanksgiving jam
Wrapped in every moment man.

Got Health Insurance?

It is November and time for "Open Enrollment". Employers have rolled out the medical, dental, vision and cafeteria plans that they will offer next year. Employees are busy reviewing and comparing plans to see which works best for the family while being relatively easy on the wallet. If you are like me, you might have found that health insurance premiums are going up. In fact, if you work in America and are offered health insurance by your employer, you will notice a sharp increase in premiums.

Here is an example. Currently, I pay $470 per month in health insurance premiums for my family of five. The plan is expensive, but it works for us. There is no deductible. Additionally, the co-payment amounts are $20 for our primary care physician (PCP) and $25 for specialists. To top it off, the plan offers self-referrals to specialists. You can say that we pay for what we get.

Let us fast forward to next year, 2011. My current plan will see several changes. Monthly premiums will increase to $580. The “no deductible” feature that we currently enjoy will be a thing of the past. And, while the deductible will not be enormous - $250 per person and $500 per family – now we will only be covered for 90% of all procedures, after the deductible is met. Thankfully, the co-payment amounts remain unchanged - $20 for PCP and $25 for specialists.

What now? We anticipated changes, but not so much so quickly. Like many others, we are forced to review and compare several healthcare plans to see which works best for our family and is “easy” on the wallet. I have four plans to choose from and the features are mixed. While one offers a lower premium, the deductible is much higher. And for yet another – a HMO – the premium is much lower than I pay now, but the deductible is $3,000 per family and the co-payment is $40. It will take some playing with the numbers to see which plan is best, but there will not be an easy choice.

Nevertheless, I am thankful that I do have choices and that my employer is still sharing the cost of health insurance. Sadly, there are still close to 16 million people without jobs and therefore do not have employers to help with their healthcare coverage.
If you do, count it as one of many blessings.
Finally, if you or someone you know are shopping for health insurance feel free to contact the Health Insurance Mega Store for a quote. They compare plans from multiple providers and tell you what works best for your situation. The call is free: 877-422-7038.
